My Brighton studio is comfortable, well-equipped, clean and safe. I have pianos, amps, computer, bluetooth speakers, music and instrument stands, tuners, cables, microphones and can supply books/accessories through special order. Background checks have been passed for my work in a local music store and public schools previously.
Typical lessons are one-half hour per week with hour options available. Each student brings a unique desire/style on which to focus. Progress weekly is pursued over perfection. Student ages range from five years to seniors!
Patience combined with encouragement, enthusiasm and fun make learning steady and rewarding. I teach clearly, concisely and direct my efforts toward you, the learner - your musical preferences and goals are discovered while we work toward a solid introduction to music overall. Basic proper technique is important along with exposure to musical styles, reading and theory work, and skill level books are supplemented to steer toward student goals. Performance options are explored individually.
The student is expected to bring their love of music to lessons and to develop self-discipline to attain the technical/physical skills necessary to grow with their instrument. Parents/family members are encouraged to foster these practice times.
What to expect:
Basic exposure to music, theory, skill development, position/posture, rhythm and counting, playing techniques, sound production, ear training and reading of notation (including chord charts for guitar and piano). More intermediate skills include training in musicality and musicianship, accompaniment, harmonizing, duet/ensemble work, and coaching for performances/auditions.
